What does your digital footprint say about you?

  • Today Mrs Grant came to our class for cybersmart and we learned about other peoples blogs, and the information we can get from them. We had to choose one person to do and we had to look and read their blog and write about their digital footprint. I did one from Panmure Bridge School  and I can’t wait for next week.

Ki O Rahi tournament

Yesterday after morning tea  Room six, Seven and eight went under the canopy and we lined up into our house groups and the house groups were Rimu, Kauri, Totara and Rata.  Then Mr Bell was introducing coach Trey and coach Trey said whoever won would get one hundred dollars but it was monopoly money and everyone was laughing. Then Mr Bell said the names of the people who were versing each other and  Room six went to watch and so did the other classes.  Coach Trey was counting up the points and was the referee and some people were screaming for Kauri and others were Rata and the groups were Taniwha and Kioma, Taniwha was the one who tries and hits the tupu and tries to rip the tag of Kioma and Kioma has to hit the pou and score a point, you need a two guardians to block the tupu and the ball is called ki.

While Rata and Kauri were playing Mrs Agnew was calling out the names who were going on next and I was playing in that round; Rimu and Totora were versing each other a little while later and Rata and Kauri too.  We had to put our straps on and everything then we went on the field to play. I was feeling nervous and then the game began. Rimu was Taniwha and Totora was Kioma and at first I was doing alright because I wasn’t nervous. I was having so much fun and people were diving and falling and their tags getting ripped off, then coach Trey said swapping over so then Rimu was Kioma and Totora was Taniwha. It was very fun being Taniwha. Then coach Trey said we only had thirty seconds left and after thirty seconds the game ended. We had to swap with the other people who were playing the next round.

We were watching and screaming and most people were enjoying watching the games but towards the end everyone was getting tired. Then some people were looking who was playing next and they said I was playing for Rata. Mrs Agnew said it was almost lunchtime. The game had ten seconds left and then the game ended but there was  more after lunch. We said prayers and ate lunch.

At the end of lunch we lined up under the canopy in our houses  and then Mrs Bell said who were playing the very last game. I went onto the field and played and it was so much fun. I kept ripping Jacob’s tag and it was so much fun. Then the game ended and we went back under the canopy. The house to win the one hundred dollars was Kauri.

My Digital Footprint

Today Mrs Grant came to our class for Cybersmart we were learning to create a respectful, responsible and positive digital footprint. We learned to stop and think before sharing it online and if we don’t know if it’s safe we can ask a parent or  a teacher, then we learned how to hyperlink it onto the logos.

ANZAC Biscuit

On Thursday 27th April, Mrs Agnew bought Anzac biscuits so we could try them and gave them to our whole class  because we were going to write about them. When Mrs Agnew gave all of us a biscuit, we wrote what it looked like, and I thought mine looked like the humps on the road! It smelled like oats in our cereal and coconut. It felt as hard as concrete, but smooth on the bottom like a chair. It tasted like coconut and oat milk. I put it on my forehead and tried to eat it and then the tiny tiny dust went inside my eye like someone had stabbed a pencil into my eye. During World War I in 1915 the women baked biscuits for the men who were fighting in the war and the ingredients were butter, flour, golden syrup, Baking soda and sometimes coconut. These ingredients  could last for 4 months all the way up to the men far away. The cookies were so delicious that I almost passed out that they were the best biscuits I have ever tried. I am so happy we got to eat them and learn more about why they are important to us.

St Patrick’s 175 Year Jubilee Celebration

Last week on Friday morning I was so excited and a little nervous because it was St Patrick’s 175 Jubilee and I was reading during mass but I had practised heaps of times.

As soon as I arrived at school I was feeling happy. When the bell rang we lined up and walked up to church and we sat in our seats and then when it started,  Eldrich went to the front to speak because he was doing the introduction. He had said he was nervous and we all said you can do it. When he came back I said ‘well see I told you, you could do it” and he was relieved.

After Father was talking, he began the Prayers of the Faithful and I knew it was nearly my turn. I was nervous because the church was filled up with heaps of people. I felt relieved when I returned to my seat.

When we finished mass Father said we were going to dig up a time capsule so we went out of church and gathered around it. When it was finally dug up, we looked inside and there was old stuff from 1998. After that we walked back to school for morning tea.

Later, Ms Bullot called our names out for teams to enjoy some games. My team first went to Mr Bell. We had to throw three tennis balls and when we threw the last one, the fielders had to run and get the ball and put it into the hula hoop and the thrower had to run to the other side. We helped the little ones play the game because it was quite difficult. We went to all the other teachers too. My favourite activity was with Sr Evalesi.

At the end our leaders handed out popsicles but I didn’t want one. Mrs Deeney said I could help to collect the rubbish. After lunch we went back to class and we read and drew pictures while Ms Kyle read us a book.

On Sunday morning we went to church again and when we left home we thought we might be late. Luckily we made it in time. I saw Nixcent and Mrs Agnew walking. When we sat down more and more people came and soon we were very squashed. It was amazing when a little Tongan girl was sitting on a chair (fata) and four men were carrying her down the aisle. She gave the Bible to Father. There was also a girl singing really high and everyone started clapping.

After mass everyone went to the hall and we sang three songs for the parents and guests. There were lots of people there but everyone was happy. The Samoans, Tongans and Filipinos danced and sang. I think it was a successful Jubilee celebration weekend

My very own dookling

On Monday afternoon Mrs Grant came to our class for Cybersmart. We got out our chrome books and we were learning how to embed on our chrome books because we were going to post our  Kawa of care learning. So Mrs Grant told us what to do and we had to listen very carefully. So she told us what to do and then we did it. Some people needed help so we helped them and when we finished we sat on the mat and we looked at one other school’s blog  post. We saw that they made alien monsters with shapes and scribble lines and we decided to do it too. So we left a comment and opened google drawing and then we started drawing whatever we wanted. I did not know what to draw so I was thinking  and thinking and I realized maybe I could draw a duck and should call it dookling. So I did a random outline and then I was thinking maybe a ghost but was like never mind so I kept it as a dookling.  I just added random details and decided to make another one so I made a random one and added colors. Then Mrs Grant had to leave so we kept on going and I completed this.
