GOKU V BULMA

This term Mr Bell  introduced us to a new book and we were excited. Mr Bell said we were going to read about Dragon Ball Z, the whole class was so excited and happy. We were just up to finishing book 4, we were on the mat with the bean bags while drawing in our scrapbook. Goku is a 12 year old and he’s a fob! He really doesn’t  know everything, if you touch his tail he loses his power and strength. We had to do a comparison about GOKU and BULMA Bulma is a sassy girl and her wish is to have a cute boyfriend, this book is really amazing! Some of the parts are really funny (The class had giggles)

Tribute to Akira Toriyama

On a Friday morning after we had finished Church, in class our teacher Mr Bell said that Akira Toriyama had died on the first of March and was released  to the public on the 8th and we were all shocked and sad, Mr Bell said Akira Toriyama died because  he had died because of a blood clot in his brain at the age of 68 years old. His studio said he had heaps of projects he was working on and was so happy on what he was working on, but he was looking forward to completing his work, Mr Bell said we were going to do a tribute  for Akira Toriyama we were so happy and excited, we watched contributions of people around the world. We did slides for Akira Toriyama, we were so sad for his death.

St Patrick’s Day

ST Patrick’s Day

On Friday morning the 15th of March was St Patrick’s Day. I was feeling so excited, I got all ready.

I hopped into the car and we drove. When we arrived at school we were early so we waited in the car for a few minutes. I saw my friend Annamaria get out of her car, then a bit more people were waiting for the gate to open. When Miss Bullot opened the gate Annammaria and I ran to class. We were waiting for our friends to come, we were all running and all of a sudden the bell rang so we went to class. We lined up to go up to mass, we had to sing and pray. When we finished mass Miss Bullot said that we had to postpone the games on Monday because it was raining and they didn’t want us to get sick. Some people were sad.

When we went back to class we did some RE, Mr Bell told us that we were going to do a St Patrick Task Board for this block. We got into our chrome books, we could do it in any order, they were heaps of fun but some of them were hard to do.  The morning tea bell rang so we went outside to have fun and play. (It was wet outside) After morning tea we continued doing the task board, we did Karakia for lunch.  After lunch Mr Bell said we were going to watch Spirited Away, we were so happy, we were getting comfy we had bean bags all over the floor. During the movie I fell asleep, for a long time. When the bell rang we were so sad, we cleaned up, said Karakia and went home.

On Monday morning when I arrived at school I ran so fast to put the bag away. Some people brang their PE gear and so did I, Room 6 were going to do Assembly, when the bell rang we lined up and went under the canopy. We sang the National Anthem, gave the students their certificates and sang Happy Birthday. We did RE and when the bell rang we changed into our PE gear and played. The bell rang and we went under the canopy, Miss Bullot was telling us what team we were in. We went to play our first games. We were playing Mr Bell, we played Scatterball, all we had to do was throw 3 tennis balls and run to the other side, the fielding team had to get the tennis ball and someone had to be in the circle and lift their hands and say stop.

It was really fun playing Scatterball but some of the juniors  didn’t really know how to play but we were still cheering. The second game was with Miss Kyle (Netball) we had to do 4  passes then pass it to the  juniors to score it. We weren’t playing the game properly, we were doing 3 passes! When the bell rang we went to Mr Carroll (Spoon race), then Sr Evalesi (Sashes) and the last game was with Mrs Agnew (Cricket Bowling), when we finished we went under the canopy and sat down, Miss Bullot told us how many points we got and who won. We got an ice block, then we said prayers and had lunch. After the bell rang we went to class and finished Spirited Away. I loved St Patrick’s Day and playing games. I am so happy that we could finish Spirited Away.

Sailing Experience

On Tuesday morning our teacher Mr Bell said that we were going sailing on Thursday for Room 7 and 6 but only the year 6 and 5s were going, it was called Yachting New Zealand, Mr Bell said we would have to be at school by 8:25 and if we were late we had to leave them because we couldn’t wait for them.

The day before sailing Mr Bell told us what to bring and we were so excited but some of us were anxious but  Mr Bell taught us how to breathe, at home I was excited and anxious but I had prepared my swimming clothes and everything I needed, when it was time to sleep I couldn’t sleep at all but after an hour I finally fell asleep. When I woke up in the morning I made breakfast and got all ready, I waited for my family to get ready, when they  got  ready we hopped into the car and drove off. We were driving to my Caregiver, I already told her that she would have to drop us early for school for sailing, she had to leave early to drop the other kids to school.

We managed to be early for school, instead of me being anxious I was so excited that I couldn’t wait, I ran to go to class. When we went to class we changed to our swimming togs (We were wearing our swimming togs under our uniform so we could easily change into it), when we changed Mr Bell told us we had to go to under the canopy because we almost had to go, when we went under the canopy we had to have 2 lines for girls and boys and we said prayer then we headed off. It  took us 20 minutes to walk there.

When we arrived at the sailing I saw the water, it was low tide and murky. The sailing instructor introduced herself; there were 2 girls and 1 man. The girls’ names were Steph and Ellie and the man’s name was Blair. Steph told us everything about the boat and what they were used for and even told us some facts , she even let us go inside the boat and we got to try it out.  Steph said the year 6s were going first so Steph walked us to the van and gave us our life jackets to put on , when we put on our life jackets we had to wait for all the year 6s to put on their life jackets. When we were all done Steph asked to pick a partner so everyone went around to find a partner, my partner was Marii, we had to pick a boat and then pull it to the shore and then ask Blair if he could help us put our boat in the water, Steph said that the instructors will be going on a boat with engines to help us.

As soon as we went in the water it was freezing a bit but not that much, we hopped into the boat, Marii was sailing and I was steering the boat. We were so excited. When everyone was on their boat Steph said we were going to play some games, the first game was called follow the leader all we had to do was follow the leader, as soon as we started moving it was kinda hard but in a few minutes it was easy and we were first but then everyone started catching up, it was a line following everyone we were doing circles and turns, the turns were sharp, my partner and I kept laughing. It was so tiring to steer the boat, our hands were getting really tired, while we were steering the boat Steph suddenly threw a rubber duckie and we were all trying to get it but we were far away from the rubber duckies. While Steph was throwing the rubber duckies we finally managed to get one and it had names on the side. Steph kept throwing more rubber duckies but Steph said if we have more than 2 to throw the other rubber duckies for someone else to go and get it.

Steph brang everyone that were somewhere else to the middle, Steph said we were going to play Simon Says and we were excited. One of the questions was how to stand and put your hands on their shoulders. Marii and I weren’t standing straight because we were so scared even though we were wearing life jackets. Steph then said we had to capsize the boat, the other people  said they were going to go first and we watched them they did it really good, my partner and I were kind of scared, after building the courage we stood up someone stood up at the front of the boat and the other person sit’s down and also help making it fall, my partner had to rock the boat so it would tip over, we were rocking the boat and we did one big rock and we fell in, the water was feeling warm. We had to  go on the other side and flip the boat over, when we had done that we had to get on the boat and it was so hard to get on and took us about a few minutes to get in, we managed to get in and there was so much water on the boat so we had a bucket and scooped it up and poured it back out. While we were sailing 2 of my friends Jaeden and Georzen one of their hat had fallen in the water and they were swimming trying to find it, while we were trying to help them our boat flipped over, and  we had to do it again! While we were trying to help their boat was drifting away so we had to go back on the boat and it was even harder to do.

We had to drive back to Steph so while we were driving the boat flipped again! We were getting so mad, so we had to get back on again. Steph helped us get to shore while we were trying to get water out of the boat and we were so relaxed because we were back on the boat. When we arrived on shore I layed down on the shore because I was so tired. We had to go up and eat our food while the year 5 was getting on the boat, when we finished eating we got split into groups to do some work. When the year 5 was done we went and changed back into our school uniform, we had to walk back up and we were even tired and we couldn’t catch up. We got to school early and it was already lunch time. I enjoyed going sailing and it was the best experience ever, I wished we could go back again.

My Special Place

How My Space Is Precious To Me

My special place is not a place, it’s actually a person, I have heaps of special people but one of them is my Mum. My Mum is a special person to me because she cares for me in my hard times especially when she’s stressed and having a hard time,  we have humorous talks with each other to make each other chuckle and smile to brighten our day, even sometimes we have arguments then we make it up to each other, she tries her best to  spend time with me and my brother to make us happy.

My Mum takes us on walks to enjoy the view and the day. We have so much fun together. We always talk about the day. I sometimes ask her what she did at work or how it was at work, she says it’s  tiring or terrible.  (There’s always something bad happening at her work or good) She checks up on me when I’m sad and when I’ve had an awful day at school, and I feel very joyful when she asks me that question!  (She makes me feel very special).

My Mum loves plants so when it’s her birthday or any occasion my family buys her plants (Well, not really. I mean sometimes we give her cards or just flowers). Every time there’s a party at our house she wakes up early in the morning to prepare and I feel like kinda sad and bad, I love the car rides when were driving me and my brothers song pop on and we start singing and our Mum always joins in, sometimes it’s funny so we have a little laugh.

Whenever I do readings for school or any activity she always supports  me and tells me to be brave and just be confident and that helps me and makes me feel a bit better, that is my special place.

Our Visit To The Stone Cottage

This last Tuesday our whole school was lucky enough to go to the Stone Cottage. Our schedule was at 10am. We walked on the footpath cheerfully while we were reflecting on what it was going to look like inside the Stone Cottage.

When we arrived at the Stone Cottage we walked around because there was another class inside. We were introduced by Terry and Patrick, and we learned that Patrick was a historian. Patrick told us that this Stone Cottage was not the original one, it was relocated from Mt Wellington (near the McDonald) and moved to Panmure in 1971. The whole entire Stone Cottage was rebuilt and opened in September 1972. Terry then showed us some pictures of what Panmure used to look like.

We went inside the first room, it was really voluminous. There was an old woman sitting on a chair, her name was Josephine. There was a fireplace and pictures of old people in the 1900s. Terry told us that the men stayed in the room drinking tea and beer, (the men loved drinking beer and tea) and also talked a lot about their day. Phoebe Dunn was 13 years old when she made embroidery. Woman loved doing embroidery.

Then we went into the kitchen, there were old plates and cups. There was a doll on a high chair, Terry showed us a mustache cup that the men would use to protect their beards from getting wet. Mustache cups had a semi circular ledge of the rim, they were invented to protect the extraordinarily magnificent mustaches of the 19th century from the effects of steam resulting from hot drinks and beer. The people in the 1900s loved mustaches so they would grow them long.

Then we went upstairs, Terry told us to hold the railing because the stairs were steep and to duck because it was small. Terry showed us a room where

the children slept, there were old clothes that were given to charity. The bed was miniature.

I really enjoye

d visiting the Stone Cottage and seeing all the old things that were there. I wish we could go back there again seeing the stilts, bellows. We said bye to Terry, Patrick and Josephine, we crossed the road and went back to class with a smile on our faces.

My holiday experience

During the school holidays my family and I went to Rotorua. When I woke up I got ready and had my breakfast. My family put our bags in the car, we put our shoes on and hopped into the car. I was amazed when mum said said it was going to take us three hours to drive there but I was still so excited to leave.

Our first destination was Whakarewarewa, Redwood forest. When we arrived we were astonished to see how staggeringly beautiful it was. We checked in and walked up the curlicue. At first I was feeling a bit nervous but when I walked onto the bridge I was feeling so thrilled. I learned that Redwood trees live to about six hundred years on average but can reach up to two thousand years and that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle came to Whakarewrewa Redwood forest in 2018.

It started pouring  so we decided to go to our hotel. When we arrived we saw that there was a swimming pool and a spa. We checked in and went into our hotel. It looked so cool that I started running to find the bedrooms and there were 4 bedrooms for us to sleep in. My Dad, my brother, my uncle and I waited for the rainfall to stop. When the rain stopped we went out and checked to see the pool, it was numbingly cold but I had the bravery  to put my feet in and as soon as I put my feet in I jumped straight  out of the pool. My brother and I wanted to go and swim so we went back and changed into our swimming togs. We went into the pool and my  body was freezing cold but we continued to swim,  my entire body was numb for hours.

The next day we went to Skyline Rotorua. I was feeling so elated when we checked in and rode up the Gondala to go on the Luge but we went to eat breakfast first. It was so delightful, when we went to the Luge I was riding slow because I didn’t quite know how to drive it yet. Then my Dad taught me how to drive it properly, and in a minute I started driving fast. I think my Mum didn’t like that so she kept telling me to slow down because she thought I might get  hurt.

On the very last day in Rotorua we went to my brother’s Godmother’s house. We knocked on the door and as soon as they opened the door their dog came jumping on us because he was so excited to meet us. When we went inside their dog was jumping everywhere so they took their dog to the backyard. We ate some food and talked. The part I loved the most when we were there was when we got to play with their dog and got to pat him. We had to have a sleepover there  because we had stayed there until late talking and having fun.

I enjoyed staying in Rotorua for a week and seeing my brother’s Godmother and we had so much fun. Finally we said bye to everyone especially their dog and also Rotorua. We hopped into the car and drove home with smiles on our faces.

Swimming 2023

We have been swimming for the past 2 weeks,  Mrs Agnew told us what to bring for swimming – we had to bring a swimming cap, goggles, towels, togs, bag to put your stuff in and a jumper to keep warm afterwards. We didn’t go  swimming on Monday because we had to start on Tuesday. I was so excited for swimming and I could not sleep at all the night before.

When I arrived at school I was still excited and so was everyone else. We did some work and we looked out the window and we saw the juniors walking to the bus and everyone got even more excited and we were waving at them. Then about 20 minutes later the boys had to change so then we went out with our chrome books so we could do our work while the boys were changing. When the boys were done changing we put our chrome books back to charge and then we  changed. After having something small to eat and a short play we went to the bus after the little kids got off. When we were inside the bus the seniors were singing so many songs.

When we arrived the boys were still swimming so we had to sit down and wait. Then Miss George told us to take off our jumpers. When the boys were done swimming we went up and the swimming teacher said ” Your hands up if you can swim a lap.” Then she said, “Non stop” my hands were up and she said “Go to lane 3” and we went to lane 3. I was so excited.  Our swimming instructor was Li and our warm up was freestyle but with a board and we did 2 laps with it and he said “you’re going to do it without a board now” we did two laps again. I started to get tired and he said ” grab our boards because we were going to do backstroke!” I was exhausted when we got back to school.

When we arrived back to school we all changed to our school uniform while the boys were playing on the bottom court and we went out and said prayers and went home. I was really happy. Unfortunately I couldn’t swim for the rest of the time because I was really sick. I am sad but I enjoyed watching the others swimming and getting splashed!

Matariki

Last week it was Matariki, which was on 14th, July and it was a public holiday for the whole country but some people had to go to work. Last week when we came back to school we shared fun Matariki learning and activities. The first one was that we had to write down as many facts as we knew about Matariki and we only had four minutes and I learned that the name of Matariki translated in English means “eyes of god”.  Many countries around the world celebrate the New Year in January but the Maori New Year is in July. The Matariki star cluster called Pleiades  rises in the morning sky on the eastern horizon, before the sun comes up.

We also made a woven star, and the supplies you need are scissors, wool, cardboard circle and pencil. At first I thought it was going to be hard and when I started it was really hard because you have to cut the circle evenly. Cutting the cardboard is really hard because it’s like cutting a cement block and you really have to push down hard.

Instructions: First draw a circle and then cut it out, cut 1.5cm slits equal distance apart all the way around the circle (like on a clock.) Then slide the wool into the first slit, leaving a tail on the other side then begin making your way around the shape, passing through each slit several times, until it looks nice and thick. Use a second colour and weave a different  pattern by starting at a new number.

I enjoyed making the star and the fun activities we did.
